Professor Ih joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) at Daejeon as an Assistant Professor in 1990, teaching courses in acoustics and vibrations. He is currently a Professor and had supervised 33 MS and 20 PhD students to completion. Before joining the KAIST faculty, he was employed by the Daewoo Motor Co. at Inchon, Korea (1979-1990). During 1985-1990, he was in charge of the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) Group in the Technical Center. In 1987, Dr Ih visited the ISVR of Southampton University, UK, as a Post Doc research staff for a year. He was awarded his PhD (1985) and MS (1981) degrees in acoustics in Mechanical Engineering at KAIST in Seoul at those times, and BS (1979) in Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University in Seoul. His current research interests include vibro-acoustics, duct acoustics and product sound quality. He has published about 80 papers in academic journals on acoustics and presented about 120 papers at international conferences. Dr. Ih conducted about 90 research contract projects funded from industries or government as the project leader and he holds 6 patents. He had been to Loughborough University in UK (1999), Seikei University in Japan (2005), and Canterbury University in New Zealand (2006) as a visiting professor, either for research or lecture. He received domestic and international awards, including Academic Awards from the Acoustical Society of Korea (ASK) and the Korean Society for Noise and Vibration Engineering (KSNVE), respectively, in 2003. He served as the Secretary General of the Inter-Noise 2003 at Jeju, Korea. Prof. Ih is currently a Vice President of the ASK. He is a member of the editorial board for Applied Acoustics and Journal of ASK, and had been the editor-in-chief for the latter journal.
