Kimihiro Sakagami graduated from the Department of Environmental Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Kobe University in 1987, and finished an MSc (Eng) in 1989. After finishing his MSc, he spent one and a half years as a doctoral candidate at the same university until he started his work as a research associate in 1990. He received his degree of Doctor of Engineering from Kobe University in 1993. He was a Visiting Research Fellow in Acoustics of University of Bradford, UK, in 1997. He has been Associate Professor in Environmental Acoustics since 1998.

Kimihiro is a member of the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ), Acoustical Society of Japan (ASJ), Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and the Institute of Noise Control Engineering Japan (INCE/J), for which he has worked as a member of the editorial board and several committees. He has received awards from AIJ and ASJ. He has been a member of the Editorial Board of Applied Acoustics since 2004, and has worked as a member of the Organising Committee for several international conferences. His main research interest is acoustic properties of building materials, particularly non-porous sound absorbers including microperforated panels and their application. His recent work also includes large scale sound field analysis and control of structure-borne noise.
