The magnificent city of Athens has been the capital of the independent Greek state since 1834, and the host city of the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896. Also, 108 years later it hosted the 2004 Summer Olympics. Athens is also the home to the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Acropolis of Athens. Pericles (c. 495 - 429 BC) coordinated its construction including the site’s most important buildings: the Parthenon, the Propylaia, the Erechtheion and the temple of Athena Nike. Athens ensures also a great number of other magnificent sights and attractions, such as the famous Herod Atticus Odeon dominating the western end on the south slope of the Acropolis, the Agora the centre of political and public life in Athens (6th century BC), the medieval Daphni Monastery and the Hellenic Parliament (19th century). The Athens Trilogy, consists of the National Library of Greece, the Athens University and the Academy of Athens. The National Archeological Museum features the world’s largest collection of ancient Greek antiquities, as well as the new Acropolis Museum.
The Congress Venue, the Athenaeum Intercontinental Hotel is located within 3 km from the Acropolis and close to metro stations and the business district and features award-winning restaurants, a spa centre and a 24-hour gym. The hotel`s spacious, elegant rooms include marble bathrooms, a seating area featuring wooden furnishings with soft colors and carpets. All guest rooms at the Athenaeum Intercontinental are equipped with 32’’ LCD satellite TVs, a work desk and a coffee maker.
The local and international organization staff of the ICSV23 Congress, are doing their very best to create the conditions for your most comfortable and fruitful stay in Athens. However, dear colleagues, the expected success of our congress will be mainly due to your scientific contributions and your active and warm participation.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Athens.
